Dynamic drive

Korando is available with a 1.5L GDI-Turbo petrol engine or a 1.6L diesel engine, guaranteeing maximum fuel efficiency and driving satisfaction, no matter your choice. There is an impressive towing capability of up to 2 tonnes with diesel engine models, enough to tow the majority of caravans for a weekend away on the coast. Innovative construction techniques have resulted in Korando being a smooth and quiet drive.

1.5 litre petrol

1,497 cc
163PS @ 5,000 - 5,500 rpm
280Nm @ 1,500 - 4,000 rpm

Korando offers a 1.5l GDI-Turbo petrol engine with low-speed torque giving rapid acceleration when required. This modern engine delivers 280Nm of torque and 1.5 tonnes of towing capability. The GDI-Turbo petrol engine is available with either 6-speed manual or AISIN 6-speed automatic transmission, proving smooth gear shifting with maximum fuel efficiency.

1.6 litre diesel

1,597 cc
136PS @ 4,000 rpm
324Nm @ 1,500 - 2,500 rpm

The 1.6l diesel engine delivers effortless performance in any driving conditions, 324Nm of torque and maintains a 2-tonne towing capacity. Optimised gear ratios on the AISIN 6-speed automatic transmission ensure smooth, and precise gear shifts, improved fuel efficiency and a quieter ride.

Drive mode

Featured on Korando automatic models, the driver can select one of three drive modes, Normal, Sport or Winter, to suit conditions and promote safer driving.

Normal

  • Balancing the need for fuel economy and power
This default mode is utilized for day-to-day driving and is not indicated on the dashboard.

Sport

  • Delivers extra power at the expense of fuel economy
Starting from the NORMAL Mode, turn the driving mode switch clockwise to the SPORT mode, which will be indicated on the dashboard.

Winter

  • Starts the vehicle in second gear to prevent tires from slipping on icy roads in the winter.
When in NORMAL or SPORT, hold the driving mode switch for longer than one second to switch to WINTER Mode, which will be indicated on the dashboard.

Idle stop & go system

ISG is standard on all Korando automatic vehicles – it automatically shuts off the engine when at idle to enhance fuel economy and reduce exhaust emissions.

Noise, vibration & harshness

A sophisticated engine mount system, alongside powertrain and driveline suppression measures, maximises noise reduction and has allowed the Korando to attain superb levels of NVH. Using new construction features such as under floor damping, pillar cavity foam, and a sound absorbing roof liner, the Korando is effective in isolating engine, road and exterior sounds for a quiet driving experience.

Safety

Korando looks and handles well, but that’s not all – it’s also the safest and strongest Korando ever. A focus on safety is built-in from the body up, with a best-in-class chassis composed of 74% high-tensile strength steel. SsangYong has also fitted a 6 airbag system – which includes driver and passenger seat airbags, side and curtain airbags.

Safety for all includes a smart safety system – a continuously growing toolkit of advanced driving technology, designed to keep everyone safe on the road. This includes Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Safety Distance Alert (SDA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Front Vehicle Start Alert (FVSA), along with driver aids such as High Beam Assist (HBA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Driver Attention Alert (DAA).

With all of these safety features, it’s no surprise the Korando scored 5 Stars in the Euro NCap test.

Autonomous emergency braking system (AEBS)

When a frontal collision is anticipated, this function warns the driver and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision.

Front collision warning

Alerts the driver when another vehicle or pedestrian appears in the path of the vehicle.

Lane departure warning system (LDWS)

Notifies the driver when the forward camera module detects an unintended lane departure by the vehicle.

Lane keeping assist

The front camera module helps prevent unintended lane departure and if an unintended lane departure is detected (absence of a turn signal), LKA will automatically make a corrective steering adjustment.

Front vehicle start alert (FVSA)

Alerts the driver when preceding stopped vehicle begins to depart
